Hello everyone,
Well that is the official end of week 2 of the Victorian State T&F Championships as we slowly draw the curtains down on another big summer season with 4 specialist meets remaining before the National Championships in April. We had high presence over the weekend and this was noted by several officials and members of other clubs which is great to see us being recognised. A shame that there was no “live stream” available on Sunday to see some fantastic performances from a number of our members competing.
Let’s wrap up the weekend just gone, look at what events remain in the calendar, confirm training times and make a FINAL CALL OUT for assistance for our club fundraiser as we start to gear up and plan for the upcoming winter cross country season.
WEEK 2 STATE T&F SUMMARY
Another busy weekend of athletics at the 2024 Victorian Championships
- We think about nine PBs achieved (apologies again if we missed a couple). PBs at Championships are “worth more”.
- We grabbed a few more medals to keep our profile high (Gold to Bart L, Lachie G, Will K and Tom R, Silvers to Conor S, Jayden M and Tom R and Bronze to Mark B).
- Will B-J made the semi finals of the Open 200m with a PB of 22.93
- Luke B put in a mighty last 80m to hold off a charging opponent on way to a big PB in his 1500m.
- Impressive to have a total of three Discus throwers at the Championships
- Good to see Nathan M coming back to some fine form in 3000m.
- A lot of top 8 finishers in this weekend’s State Finals.
- Congratulations to all who entered and had a crack.
This weekend our club was allocated duties on the Friday night and the Saturday morning session. A big thankyou to Doug C (President), Erro F (Gabby’s Mum), Will C (Henry’s Dad), Chris M(Aj’s Dad) Olivia K (Will’s mum), James G (Lachy’s Dad) Janice ( Elden’s mum) and Elizabeth & David D (Henry’s parents) for volunteering and ensuring our club did our bit in ensuring the competition ran smoothly.
A big shoutout & thankyou to our club coaches for this season Gregor E and David L. Volunteering their services to coach the school boys after school twice a week then making their way over to coach the non school club members at Righetti Reserve and attend and support the athletes throughout the season at the various competitions. It is a credit to you both for the time and effort put in and I know the athletes & the club appreciate everything you do for them and the club. Proof is in the pudding with improvement across the board in the athletes performance and winning division 5 this year.👏👏
Enjoy the photos we have managed to take over the weekend of a number of our athletes. To see further photo’s from week 2 and throughout the season head over to our photo gallery https://oldscotchathleticclub.com.au/old-scotch-athletic-club-photo-gallery/

Please add your name, contact email and phone number for the day and any others who are coming with you to the shift times that are nominated in the form and we will confirm final details closer to the date.
It will be a fun day and a great way for the club to raise funds to continue to support our cross country and track & field athletes so we hope to see as many of our parents and athletes helping out as possible.

WINTER COMPETITION
CROSS COUNTRY
SAVE THE DATE – JAMIESON 2024
Following on from the club’s outstanding track and field season, we encourage all members to be part of the 2024 winter/cross country season!
More details to follow, but for now please mark Saturday April 6th in your diaries as the opening event as part of the APSOC season (Associated Public Schools Old Collegians Amateur Athletic AssociatIon) – the Jamieson 5km at Scotch.
https://apsoc.net.au/calendar/
It’s a gentle reintroduction to cross country running, a fast course and a lovely afternoon tea overlooking the Yarra River. In addition to hordes of athletes in cardinal, we will need marshalls and afternoon tea helpers – we want to ensure this is the best event on the calendar!
Any questions in regards to the upcoming Winter Cross Country season please email the club at oldscotchathleticclub@gmail.com subject line: Cross Country and we will have the cross country delegates come back to you.
We hope to see this years members rejoin and welcome new members into the fold. If you have any family or friends who enjoy the longer runs away from the track don’t be shy in promoting Old Scotch as the club of choice.

There will be a break in newsletter proceedings for a few weeks so we will look at providing a summary towards the end of the month once we see ourselves through the upcoming events that will wrap the Victorian season up by the third week of March.
