Winter Sports: Cross-Country and Road Racing Competitions
The Old Scotch Athletic Club takes great pride in participating in XCR, Athletics Victoria’s premier winter cross-country and road racing season. We also field teams in the APSOC XC series during the colder months. These two series are strategically coordinated, offering a variety of races almost every weekend from April through September.

Venues and Challenges
Our athletes compete against runners from across Victoria at diverse and challenging venues. From the lush trails of Jells Park and Westerfolds Park to the urban landscapes of Albert Park Lake and Sandown Park, you’ll relish the test of your skills. Other venues include St Anne’s Winery, The Tan, Yarra Bend, Bundoora Park, and Lake Wendouree.

A Rich Tradition
Since our first season in 1927, we’ve consistently participated in both the VAA and APSOC cross-country series. Our accolades include numerous finals victories and unwavering support for the Combined APSU (A Grade) team over the years.

Age Divisions
There are four underage groups: U14, U16, U18, and U20, as well as two or more open age divisions for seniors.

Social Aspects
What better way to end a winter race day than with our traditional Old Scotch afternoon tea? Satiate your appetite with mountains of muffins and homemade cakes.

Coaching and Leadership
Under the expert guidance of Coach Dave Lightfoot leading the Old Scotch team and the leadership and mentorship of Mark Purvis leading the APS United team in the Athletics Victoria competition; both our Old Scotch and APS teams have put up strong performances. The team consistently does well in the Open and Masters’ Age categories with regular podium finishes.
