Victorian 5000m Championships – 28th November 2024

We had three Old Scotch athletes competing in the Victorian 5000m Championships out at Lakeside, with some impressive results!

Ben Beischer ran a 14:20.26 PB to come 8th in the Men’s open race, with training partner Tom Bowers not too far behind placing 14th overall in 14:33.53.

Nathan Munro also ran 15:43.19 in the Men’s U20 A final.

AVSL Round 6 – 30th November 2024

Not much to report with Round 6 cancelled due to rain so we remain in 5thplace on the Div 4 ladder (only 1 point behind Corio in 3rd place).

Athletics Victoria has also advised clubs and athletes today that AVSL Round 6 will NOT be rescheduled, and therefore is cancelled.

AV will be in contact with those who paid entry fees in the coming days to organise refunds.

All points scored at Bendigo and Ballarat (that still went ahead on the 30th Nov) will not also NOT count towards the AVSL ladder.

Despite this, we had one athlete in Conor Sullivan who did race up at Bendigo, and we still think his performances should be noted!

AVSL Round 6 Results (now void):
Male 18
200m: Conor Sullivan 26.69 (1.3);
800m: Conor Sullivan 2:02.37;
3000m: Conor Sullivan 9:03.33;

Vale David Purvis:

The Old Scotch Athletic Club community is saddened to hear of the passing of David Purvis (father of Mark Purvis) late last week. David lived an incredible 98 years and was a much-loved member of the club for many, many years. In addition to giving so much to the club, David volunteered for more than 25 years as an official at APSOC events.

A celebration of David’s life will be held at Le Pine, 741 High Street, Kew East, at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, 18th December 2024.

We extend our thoughts to Mark and his family.
