AV XCR Ekiden Relays, Saturday 17th August 2024
St Anne’s Winery, Myrniong

Open Men’s Div 2 team Silver medallists, Ben Beischer, Connor Merigan, Harrison Carr, Conor Sullivan, Lachlan Gance and Nathan Munro

APS teams bring home the medals at Myrniong

It was a successful outing for APS United at the XCR Ekiden relays on Saturday. With 4 teams entered, it was gold for the W40, W50 and M60, and a close 2nd place to our open men.

In true cross country style, it was a muddy one, with a few slips and slides around the winery fields. There was drama for the open men, with Ben Beischer caught up by an unsuspecting herd of cows in the middle of the first relay leg that caused a brief halt to proceedings.

There were also issues when Bec Dutkowski was apparently so fast in finishing the final leg of the W40 team that the officials completely missed her, and thought the APS team was still out on course! Luckily the electronic timing saved the win.

A great day out overall, with some excellent cake to finish.

Special thanks to Heather Danks and Monica Lammers for acting as marshalls.

Thanks to Mark Purvis for taking the photos.

Time to get ready for Track & Field.

As the Cross-Country season draws to an end, the mind naturally focuses on the upcoming Track & Field Season with its promise of warmer days at exotic locations around Melbourne and Victoria.
Whatever event excites you, there is an opportunity to run, jump and throw and raise points for Old Scotch. Last season saw us win Division 5 as Champions. It was a truly great achievement by all athletes and their supporters. This year sees us try and establish ourselves back in Division 4 and compete against traditionally bigger clubs.

Registration for the new season is open. Please head over to Athletics Victoria website and sign up and purchase a Track & Field Package. The season will kick off in early October.

Please put in your diaries the Victorian State Relay Championships that will be held on the weekend of the 23rd-24th of November. No matter how far you like to run, there is a relay just for you. Let’s see as many Scotch singlets that weekend.

Go well in the last few Cross-Country races and encourage all your friends to join the fun this summer down at the track.

This role does not necessarily require attending committee meetings, although would be welcome.
