AVSL Round 6 Results:

Another impressive winning team performance on a damp Friday evening at Murrumbeena with good support from a couple at Doncaster. The track events were a bit off-Broadway in distance, so it is difficult to gauge PB efforts. Topping the individual event score was Sophie Senior with a whopping 478 points in her 600m backed up by others in the 400 Point Club – Conor Sullivan, Elden Zeng, AJ Merry, Luke Bodle, Hugo Stubbs and the flashy U18 2 x 100m team of Elden and Henry. Both Conor and Henry scored over 1000 points for the evening, which is a fantastic contribution. We enjoyed the long jump battle between Ash and Conor and were entertained by the solo 60m of Henry in his 60m when he didn’t hear the weak recall gun. Undeterred, Henry came back and repeated the effort for more big points. We thought the 40+ Women’s relay team looked quite determined and managed the baton extremely efficiently through the very vocal changeover zone.

Many thanks to our Club helpers Tony, Elden, Amanda, and Elizabeth who, on rotation, kindly fulfilled our duty at the High Jump, and to Rob Belton in his official capacity at the Long Jump. Working the shifts makes it a bit easier for all, and our next club duty is R9, so let’s see some different hands being put up to help.

Athlete of the Week
With no real measure of PBs this round, the selectors were impressed by the latest member of the 400 Point Club. Over recent weeks, Luke Bodle has been knocking on the door with a couple of scores in the 390s, this week he knocked a bit louder, and his score of 425 points for his mile grants him entry to the Club and makes him this week’s Athlete of the Week. Very well deserved Luke, and like others, a reward for good, committed training. Honourable mention goes to Elden Zeng in his first AVSL appearance scoring over 400 in both his 60m into a stiff wind and his 2 x 100m relay with Henry.

Our distance runners Amanda M and Erroleen F set for their 60m and getting those fast twitch fibres working.

Jasper tracking the slip stream of his Box Hill competitor before he unleashed a burst of speed over the last 150m.

Sophie going too fast for the camera man as she unleashed impressive speed in miserable conditions at that time of night over 600m.

High Velocity 28th Nov Lakeside:
Some very sharp performances including a PB or two for our speedsters and an impressive mixed relay team in the sunset.

Zatopek Saturday 2 December 2023:

A great night of racing of what has become a major event on the Australian athletic calendar we had 2 of our members qualify for the Mile event. Bart L turned the tables on his competitor from the All Schools and won a very exciting race with Tom putting in a strong run in a very fast run race to round out the top 10. Great job boys.

Sunday 3rd December – Club “End of Year” break up.

Great to see over 40 people made up of club members and their families take some time out on Sunday and get together down by the Scotch boatsheds to informally catch up around the BBQ after what has been a big year with success in the Cross Country competition and the club sitting on top of division 5 in the T&F competition after 6 rounds.

We had the pick of the days with the weather ☀️ and the feedback was all positive. Thanks to BBQ Pitmaster Ian K for overseeing the BBQ along with his talented band of Masterchef assistants Nathan M & Doug C, carefully watched over by Rob W. The generosity of the families with various salads and desserts ensured no one went home hungry. Looking forward to this becoming an annual event in the Old Scotch Athletics calendar.
