A Day of Triumph and Team Spirit at Doncaster
It was a remarkable day at Doncaster, marked by the participation of ten OSAC relay teams, creating history by having our first two Female track relay teams compete in the history of the club. A great coming together of runners from both the summer and winter competitions to make this happen.
Success was evident in various forms. The U16 4 x 400m relay team, with two athletes making their AV debut and securing a 5th place finish in the final, showcased immense talent. Similarly, the U18 4 x 100m team, comprising novices, finished an impressive 7th.
With nine of our ten teams finishing top 8, i.e., State finalist, it was a day of significant achievements. The formation of our Female relay teams, with the more senior ladies securing a bronze medal, was a landmark moment, along with an Open medley team that defied age expectations. Special commendation goes to our three Gold Medal teams (Open 4 x 1500m; U18 4 x 800m, and U18 4 x 400m) for their exceptional teamwork.
Race of the day was the Menโs U18 4x800m where the team after watching St Kevinโs set the pace in heat one of the timed final and setting our boys the challenge managed to win heat 2 in convincing fashion. With only the clock standing in our way of triumph and with coaches and parents anxiously pushing refresh on the resultshub app after a few minutes confirmation we brought home gold by the narrowest of margins 0.08 secs.
We celebrate Tom Bowers, who clinched gold on his 21st birthday. Our gratitude extends to all athletes, families, Doug Campbell, Tony Stubbs, David Lightfoot and Gregor Evans for their dedication and support.
